Welcome to Terry County, Texas!
My name is Mary Helen McKnight, and I am the Terry County Coordinator for this TXGenWeb Project.
Most of the archived information from the Terry County rootsweb page is accessible through the Old Index link in the menu to the left. Keep in mind, not all links may work at this time. Please bear with us as we work to move from all data from the rootsweb page (as it becomes available) to a new site.
Terry County was organized in 1904 and Brownfield was elected county seat.
The land was once hunting grounds for Comanches and other Native American tribes who depended on the buffalo for survival.
The county was named for Benjamin Franklin Terry, commander of the Eight Texas Cavalry during the Civil War.
Earliest ranches in the county included the DOV and QIV ranches, both established in 1889; and The Nunn and TFW ranches , both established in 1894.
