Photos are an important, and often overlooked, part of our history.
Photographs provide tangible link to our past, our story. They document a moment in time that might otherwise be forgotten. In an instant we can record a piece of history for future generations.
Always take a moment or two to snap a few photos whenever your with family or friends, or even just out and about.
Tragically, as we lose our older generations, a lot of photos are being thrown out. Many people think because no one knows who the people are, they are trash.
I would like to highly encourage everyone who is thinking of throwing that old photo album full of photos of people you don't know (or even just a single photo) in the trash, to contact your local museum, historical commission or society before throwing it out, chances are one of them may be interested in having them.
Texas' Last Frontier Historical Museum (aka Cochran County Historical Museum) in Morton, Texas, accepts all unwanted photos and yearbooks. Call (806) 893-6808 to donate any unwanted photos or yearbooks.
