Birth Records
Birth records are another wealth of information when it comes to researching family history. Often these records contain such information as when and where a person was born, if it was multiple birth, the name and surname of the father, the name and maiden name, and sometimes names from previous marriages of the mother, the occupation of father, and sometimes residence information.
In the State of Texas, births within the past 75 years are protected records. Birth records older than 75 years are public record.
Texas residents can only order their own birth records, or birth records of immediate family members. The State of Texas defines "immediate family" as "the registrant, his or her guardian, or the children, parents, sibilings, or grandparents of the registrant."
Non-Texas residents can only order their own records or the records of their children if they are listed as a parent on the record.
