Cochran County, Texas
Death records are another wealth of information when it comes to researching family history. Often these records contain such information as when and where a person died, place of interment, the name and surname of the father, the name and maiden name, of the mother, the occupation of deceased, residence information, and cause of death.
In the State of Texas, deaths recorded within the past 25 years are protected records. Death records older than 25 years are public record.
Texas residents can only order the death records of immediate family members. The State of Texas defines "immediate family" as "the registrant, his or her guardian, or the children, parents, sibilings, or grandparents of the registrant."
Non-Texas residents can only order death records if they are the surviving spouse of the deceased; the parent of the deceased; or the funeral director of the funeral home on record.
