Cochran County, Texas
Batterton was in the southeastern corner of the Maple Wilson Ranch and was named after the man who operated the store there. Later a filling station was added southeast of the community of Maple. The land was originally owned by Maple Wilson, who gave the acre of land for the townsite.
Weldon Avery bought the former townsite in 1947 and turned the mercantile grocery building into a cow barn, which he tore down in 1971. It was during this "deconstruction" of the mercantile store turned barn that, as the floor was removed, old coins were found between and under the boards. The dated coins signfy the business was operational during the 1920's.
The only thing there now that signifies there having been something at the location is the fact the road curves around in an otherwise straightaway area.
