Cochran County, Texas
Chipley was located about halfway between Whiteface and Lehman and was named for H. D. Chipley, the land agent in charge of developing the site.
The site was surveyed and platted April 2, 1926 by Lee Secrest and the streets were to be named for locally prominent people. R. F. Fox, who owned the land, gave the streets and alleyways to the public. The land was never graded and remained unimproved grazing land.
For a short time the townsite did have a small store, service station and a dance hall.
The townsite was officially cancelled August 18, 1945
